Flood management concepts

The link is to an article from the Washington Post which discusses attempts by varying agencies to mitigate damages due to flooding along rivers.  This paragraph summarizes the "modern" approach:

"Cities and counties are buying up homes and farms and relocating residents to restore flood plains and wetlands. They’re moving levees back from the water’s edge. And they’re ditching steep concrete channels in favor of gently sloped green spaces."

It is good to be aware of what's happening elsewhere while we work with land-use planning issues along our rivers in the Mt. Hood corridor.
