Oregon House approves constitutional amendment to limit certain political contributions

Note sent from Cathy Franz, fellow Oregon Trail Democrat:

On Friday, the Oregon House approved House Joint Memorial 6 (HJM 6), by a 48 to 11 vote, urging the United States Congress to propose a constitutional amendment to limit certain political contributions. The bill is now in the Senate Rules committee, where a work session is scheduled.
HJM 6 is about taking back our democracy from special interests. It calls for a U.S. constitutional amendment to set right the damage done by the 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court decision and by decades of court rulings that have granted constitutional rights to corporations and other statutory entities.  Full text of HJM 6 can be found online: http://www.leg.state.or.us/13reg/measures/hjm1.dir/hjm0006.a.html
This legislation is symbolic and important.  Votes can happen quickly, so it is important to act soon.  Let's tell our state senators we want them to vote for the bill -- by email, a call, or a visit, or be creative and send a post card!  Contact info for the Oregon Senate can be found at http://www.leg.state.or.us/findlegsltr.
Hundreds of local communities have passed similar resolutions, including over a dozen here in Oregon – from as far east as Baker City to as far west as Port Orford. A growing number of states – now 15 – have passed resolutions, too. HJM 6 is Oregon's resolution -- we'll be the 16th state to send an Article V constitutional amendment "petition" to Congress.
Please feel free to forward this information to anyone you think would be interested.  It would be great to let fellow Oregonians know about this bill and to contact our state senators as soon as possible, in support of its passage .
Thanks!
Cathy Fantz
